The Process

Care in every curve — time in every detail

  • Throwing

    Each form is centered and pulled by hand on the wheel or formed on the table. No shortcuts.

  • Trimming

    Leather-hard clay is refined and shaped. The weight of each piece is considered deliberately.

  • Glazing

    Earth-tone glazes are applied in layers. Each firing produces small, unrepeatable variations.

  • Firing

    Personally fired by the artist. The heat completes the final details, slowly and unhurriedly.

Behind every piece is Kathleen Leavitt - a ceramic artist based in Richmond, Virginia, who left a career in finance to work with her hands. Each form is mindfully thrown in her home studio.
